Fabulous little spot in a quiet neighbourhood. Sam and his small staff were very accommodating and we thoroughly enjoyed the food. The portions are large and we shared three starters, mains, and desserts between 4 and were stuffed!
We had an incredible experience here. The food here is generous and delicious. The roast chicken was succulent served with a mushroom butter sauce that was just perfect. We loved all the expertly crafted dishes. The service swift, polite and friendly. It’s a wonderful restaurant located in the small Trendy suburb of Sandyford. Would highly recommend and one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. Not surprised it has received national recognition for the quality of food. This is a rare gem of a place.
This is a really special restaurant. We booked ahead for dinner on saturday, and as the name suggests, it is a small and intimate space. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, greeting us with bread and a selection of delicious dips. The food was incredible, everything was so thoughtful from start to finish. My mum and brother went for starters, the lamb scrumpet and the trout rillets, which they loved. I didn't have a starter but had the butternut squash lasagne for my main, which was so delicious! Mum and brother tried the skate and the pork confit. The flavours in every dish were incredible! My mum said the teacake and blue cheese was the best dessert she has ever had. I had the rhubarb mousse which was also amazing! Throughout the evening our waiter was so charming and friendly which really added to the experience. Overall, one of the best restaurants I've ever been to, I can't recommend it enough!
Went to the Small Canteen today (5 mins early to our booking) with my friend and the evening started well with our drinks and food orders being taken pretty quickly. Our starters arrived and the pea soup was lovely but the lamb starter lacked a bit of flavour. We were the first group at the restaurant and the first to put in our orders so we were expecting to have our mains served up before the other groups, but somehow received them at least 10 minutes after the table next to us. We both got the pork belly which was fantastic! We then waited around 20 minutes for our plates to be taken and to be asked if we’d like to order dessert as we were looking forward to the plum crumble, but the waiter just asked if we wanted the bill. We said no not yet, and that we wanted to order dessert, and the waiter handed us off to the cook who told us that with 20 minutes left to go of our booking, there wasn’t time to give us any dessert. We understand that our booking was 2 hours max, but if so then we expect the service speed to match that (i.e., the 20 mins where we were waiting for our plates to be taken away could have made all the difference). I’ve been told ‘no’ to a dessert before because they were out of ingredients, which is very understandable, but I’ve never been told ‘no’ because of someone’s slow service impeding on our booking slot. It’s a huge shame as I would have loved to go back but I will not be returning to this restaurant.
Amazing place to eat! Highly recommend it! High quality food and you can tell chef puts in a lot of effort preparing the menu and the food! I thoroughly enjoyed every bite! I will be back! Thank you!
